I am Lara Hincapie and I was born in Dallas, TX, where I began participating in community theatre at the age of 10. I became interested in scenic art and design early on, and was an intern for Repertory Company Theatre in Richardson by age 14. While studying studio art throughout school, I took special interest in mural painting and scenic painting. Influenced by my artistic siblings, I enjoy experimenting with many mediums in my artwork, and expanding my understanding of various styles of art. I graduated from St. Edward's University in Austin, TX, in December of 2013, where I acheived a Bachelor's of Art degree, with an emphasis in scenic art and design. I have since moved to Colorado, and I currently work as the Charge Scenic Artist for the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, where I also design many of the sets for the FAC's productions for young audiences.
Through my artwork in the theatre I strive to enliven each design in ways that realize the designers' and directors' vision. I love getting to work in a creative environment, in which teamwork and collaboration are essential to creating new worlds on stage. I am driven by my enthusiasm to answer the callings of my own artistic voice and to develop my personal aesthetic eye with each collaborated work of art. My experience is not solely in painting; I also enjoy scenic design, illustrating for children's books, furniture art and refinishing, and have much experience in sewing & garment making, as well as hair and make-up art. I have also enjoyed designing several commercial window displays for retail businesses. I love dabbling in various aspects of theatre and the general arts, not only due to my love of the theatre, but also to develop my always wandering artistic eye.
